Ms. Weiner was the youngest outside woman ever elected to the board of directors of a major financial institution when she
joined the board of Union Mutual Life Insurance Company (now UNUM Provident Corporation) at the age of 29. She has been a
guest lecturer at Wharton, Harvard, Brown and a number of other universities. She has co-authored four books with her partner
Arnold Brown.
Edie and Arnold's first book, "Supermanaging: How to Harness Change for Personal and Organizational
Success," was selected by three major book clubs and was published in Europe, Japan and Latin America. Their second book,
"Office Biology," was a groundbreaking compilation of recent discoveries about human biology and what these mean for
work and the workplace. Their third book, "Insider’s Guide to the Future," has met with rave reviews. Their fourth
book, "FutureThink," sold out its first printing in one month. They were the subject of a PBS television program on
business planning and have been consulted by Business Week, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Newsweek and
Fortune for ideas about significant trends in business and the business environment. Hundreds of articles have tracked
their work.
For a period of 10 years, she founded and chaired the Esteem Teams, an innovative program in which dozens of inner city, at
risk girls were mentored by executive women. She currently chairs ThinkQuest NYC to help bridge the technology gap for inner
city students.
Active in women’s causes, she serves on numerous Boards and Advisory Boards, including the US Comptroller General’s
Advisory Board, the U.S. Council on Competitiveness, Independent Agents & Brokers of New York, The Women’s Leadership
Exchange, ThinkQuest New York City (Chair) and Boardroom Inc., The SciFi Channel, and the Women’s Forum. In the past,
she has been on the Board or Advisory Board of the Jose Limon Dance Foundation (Chair), UNUM Corporation, First Unum Corp.,
CompUSA, the Fashion Group International and Avon's Women of Enterprise Awards. Ms. Weiner is a member of the Women’s
Forum, the Belizean Grove, and she is the first recipient of the Fashion Group International's Entrepreneur of the Year Award
(1998). |
